The cowboys that herded cattle after the long and deadly American civil war realized in their time that they needed some new boots that were different from the normal boots in their current time and that they needed something better than the normal design. War, carriage, or field-style boots were not that great in terms of lasting and durability during their time on the field since it really hammered their ability to do their job when it comes to herding cattle and it was not really great during their time navigating bushes, creeks, rivers and other vegetation of the land. Around the year of 1870 a lone cowboy had the idea of taking his war boots to a shoemaker and had asked the shoemaker to add some great changes to the boots that he had such as a pointy toe so that he would be able to slip his foot into a stirrup quicker than before. The lone cowboy also said that he wanted a taller shaft to be made on the boots so that his legs would be protected from any harm during his adventures in the world as well as adding in a larger, under-sling heal on the bottom of the boot so that he would be able to keep his leg in a stirrup while being hard on horseback and while being on the trail. With the ideas that he was given with, the shoemaker hastily made a knee-high design with the boots that he was given and made something that would protect the wearer’s legs from anything dangerous that would be lurking outside such as animals that can bite and vegetation that can puncture his legs.
The very first pairs of cowboy boots were entirely for working purposes only. Cowboy boots were never intended for the word “Style” and it was just for working purposes only. Cowboy boots were simply thought to be something to protect the wearer from any harm and was just simply viewed as an improvement over a vital tool for a cowboys life.
After a long while cowboy boots were viewed more as a fashion statement than the old worker point of view that most people had and now the customary black or brown stitches that were made on the old cowboy boots are being replaced by something more colorful stitching. Design makers started experimenting with cowboy boots and they are constantly doing something more creative to the boots as design and pictures began to be sewn into the boots themselves. As decades passed by more and more persons are discovering the wonderful fashion design of cowboy boots and thus attracting the attention of the international community as it becomes something amazing to wear.
